Summer is in the air, and I can't wait to open a lovely chilled bottle of my favourite Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc and pair it with a yummy seared salmon sushi salad.

October is one of the best months of the year to plan a wine tour to discover the taste of the new releases and vintages that our estate has to offer.

Get away from the hustle and the bustle and come spend some quality time with your best friends and family while enjoying an informative tasting of our wines.

You are more than welcome to bring your own picnic basket along. We do not charge a tasting fee and cheese platters are on sale daily.

We look forward to welcoming you at the farm!

WINE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

The Michelangelo CCL Label International Wine Awards were announced at the Lord Charles Hotel on the 9th of September 2011.

This year 226 producers entered a record amount of 1385 wines that were rated by a panel of 15 international judges. A total of 475 wines received medals of which 35 were Grand d'Or, 179 gold and 261 silver.

We are proud to announce that the Diemersdal Pinotage Reserve 2010 was awarded with the prestigious Sue van Wyk Pinotage Trophy 2011 as well as a Grand d'Or award.

The 2009 Shiraz won a Gold award plus 7 silver medals for our other prestigious wines.

The Pinotage Reserve 2010 also received a gold at The Veritas Wine Awards.

FUN TIMES ON THE FARM

Season of Sauvignon - 1&2 October 2011

Boy, did we have fun again this year at the annual Season of Sauvignon Festival! The event was a great success and we welcomed yet again a record number of visitors to the farm.

It was 'A kind of Magic' feel with families sharing ice cold bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé, sushi platters, oysters, schwarmas, kebabs, pizza and many more delicious gourmet treats!

Some made sure they had their dancing shoes on while enjoying the music of the ever-so-popular Shenanigans and Flashbacks band!

The kids had lots of fun in the sun on the jumping castles, while dad tried out some golf shots at the 'Chip-in Challenge'! The mime, the magician with his rope and card tricks and the pony rides were among the favourites of the day.

Thank you to all who have attended the festival and many thanks for the support. We hope to see you all again next year!

Weekend indulgence - Salmon Parcels
(Serves 4)

To be served with a glass of Diemersdal Sauvignon Rose 2011

Make these pretty parcels for a lazy brunch over the weekend. They're a cinch to prepare, but look very impressive!

250 g (8 thin slices) smoked salmon
6 eggs
small bunch chives, chopped
2 T low-fat milk
salt and ground black pepper
1 t avocado oil
1 cucumber, cut into strips with a zester
1 pawpaw, scooped out with a fruit scoop
red caviar
baby herb leaves
sprouts

1. Line 4 medium-sized muffin pan moulds with plastic wrap. Line each mould with 2 salmon slices in a cross, leaving salmon to drape over the edge.

2. Break the eggs into a bowl; add the chives, milk, salt and pepper. Mix with a fork.

3. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the eggs, stir and scrape constantly with a wooden spoon until all the egg is scrambled, but not dried out.

4. Spoon the scrambled egg into the salmon-lined moulds and fold the remaining salmon over the top to cover. Turn out and remove the plastic.

5. Place the cucumber spaghetti on a serving plate, then place the salmon parcels on top. Scatter the pawpaw balls around the parcels. Garnish with the caviar, baby leaves and sprouts. Serve with slices of toasted whole wheat bread. Enjoy!

Chardonnay Reserve 2011

The long awaited new vintage of the Chardonnay Reserve has recently been released.

Vanilla and cream caramel notes come forward on the nose, integrating gently with aromas of tropical exotic fruit. The mouth feel is rich and buttery, ending in a wine with beautiful extraction of fruit and elegant acidity that brightens the palate.

Serve with crayfish, grilled calamari or lemon butter prawns.

This is a full flavoured, complex Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has good depth on the nose with aromas of citrus, green herbs, hints of asparagus and a touch of sweetness. On the palate excellent natural acidity creates balance, a fine structure and a pleasant mouth-filling texture with a clean finish.
